Singleton Family Visit

At the end of August, our friends the Singleton's came for a visit. Eron is one of our geology grad student friends from the University of Idaho. Eron, his wife Cherise, and their two kiddos Cooper (5) and Elsa (1) live in Sandpoint, Idaho. We hadn't seen the Singleton's for far too long so it was great that they could make it over to Seattle to hang out.

During their stay we enjoyed a couple of fun outings; one to the Museum of Flight and another to the Seattle Aquarium. This was my (Bridget's) first time to both so I was really excited. The Museum of Flight was awesome and HUGE! I was very impressed and highly recommend it to locals and vistors alike. There were lots of fun photo ops and kid-friendly displays, numerous full-size airplanes, a piece of a space shuttle, and tons and tons of information. Very cool! The Seattle Aquarium was fun too; the giant octopus was my favorite.

Barson Visit- August 2008

Here are some photos from the Barson Family visit in August. Jenn and I had fun taking the kids to the Everett Children's Museum where they got to enjoy cool water activities and play on a huge outdoor jungle gym. We also spent a day on Whidbey Island, which included a very fun ferry ride and play time on the beach.

Here is a sweet photo of a tired Claire-bear riding in her backpack on daddy's back...

Beach Baby...

We had a really nice summer here in Seattle (at least for a few weeks, but I'm not complaining!) and were able to get out to the beach at Lake Sammamish. This was Claire's first time in a lake and on the sand and she seemed to LOVE it! This is my FAVORITE picture of her...what an adorable tushy!!!

Claire's 1st Birthday

For Claire's 1st birthday we had a BBQ b-day party at our house, attended by family and friends. Claire wasn't sure what to think about being the center of attention, but she survived without any major meltdowns! As you can see in a few of the photos, she enjoyed trying to eat the wrapping paper and boxes a little more than the presents themselves!!! Claire received so many wonderful gifts, thank you again soooo much!!!

Claire's First Steps

Claire started taking her first tentative steps about 10 days before her first birthday. This is a video of a few of those first steps.

Another Summer Birthday Party...

Here are a few photos from Claire's friend Sam's first birthday party, on Lake Washington. It was an absolutely gorgeous day in Seattle, perfect for hanging out in the sun. Sam's mom and dad, our friends Gus and Lesley, sure know how to throw a good party, there were inflatable toys and a slip n' slide for the little ones to play on, as well as a delicious BBQ. Claire looked sooo cute in her party dress and swim suit!!!

Scapoose, Oregon- 4th of July

For the 4th of July weekend we headed down to Scapoose, Oregon to watch Bridget's niece, Cayden, compete in a weekend-long barrel racing competition. Cayden did awesome, so awesome in fact that she ended up winning tons of prizes including a horse trailer, yes, that's right a horse trailer...way to go Cayden!!! It was so great to watch her compete and see the rest of the family.

Chicago

We finally made it back to Chicago this May to visit all of Michael's family and introduce Claire to the fam. What a fantastic trip. We had so much fun but really needed to stay about a month to get in all of the visiting and sightseeing that we wanted to do. Even though it was only a little over a week, we did get to do and see so much. We spent time with both sides of the family (The Ryan's and the August's) and even stayed a night in the city with our good friend Kevin. We took Claire to the Shedd Aquarium, the Field Museum, the Adler Planetarium, Millenium Park, and other various places of interest around Chicago. I don't even know where to begin so I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Shedd Aquarium, Millenium Park, etc.

Claire loved the Aquarium and Michael had fun capturing photos of the sea creatures. Here is a nice shot of a miniature seahorse...

Chicago's new Millenium Park was definitely one of the highlights of the trip. We loved the water feature and the "Bean" sculpture. Here is the fam in front of the Bean...

And more photos for your viewing pleasure...

Well there is the summary of our trip. We can't wait to go back, but in the meantime, we love visitors!!! Thanks again everyone for letting us stay and for all of the gifts for Claire, we really appreciate everything. Can't wait to see you all again!

The First PEPS Birthday Party!

May 18 was Miss Allegra's 1st Birthday party. She is the first of the babies in our PEPS group to turn 1! The party was at Carkeek Park here in Seattle and was on the most beautiful day in May. As you will see in the slide show below, trying to get all six babies to sit still long enough to take a photo is extremely difficult, but we tried!!!

Leavenworth and the Gould/Runnerstrom Wedding

In April we traveled to the east side of the Cascades to attend the wedding of Miryha Gould (our good friend and fellow Geology major from Central Washington University) and Eric Runnerstrom. The wedding was held at the Chateau Faire Le Pont Winery in Wenatchee, WA on April 27th, 2008. It was a beautiful wedding and lots of fun to catch up with old friends.

Here we are with the bride and groom and the Barson's...

Mamma and Claire...

We also got to spend the weekend with the Barson's in the Bavarian Village of Leavenworth, WA. The weather was nice so Jenn and I and the kids strolled around town and down to the Wenatchee River while John and Michael played 18 holes at the Icicle Creek Golf Course.

Misc. March-April 2008

Here are a few random photos of Claire from March to April 2008, from about 7 to 9 months old. She is obviously the best thing that has happened to us, as you can probably tell from the disproportionate number of Claire-only photos on our blog, but oh well, no one wants to see us anyway!!! Ha Ha! Here are the many faces of Claire...

Claire in her adorable Easter dress from Auntie Angie and Auntie Kendra.

She has finally out-grown this red hoodie but I used to love her in it. This is back when hanging out in the high-chair playing with toys was still cool. My how we miss those days!

Cute crawler...

Giving her "what-you-talkin'-bout-Willis" shifty side-eye look.

Here is a classic Claire super-happy-almost-crazy look, just before she mauled her good friend Olivia...

Just chillin' in her car that the Barson's let us borrow. Claire loves all of the toys and music.

Claire enjoys helping out with the laundry. It can take hours (or sometimes days, but who's counting anyway!) to get everything folded and put away because she loves pulling everything out of the basket and dragging it across the room or destroying the freshly folded piles within reach.

Claire has always had a great appetite. We consider ourselves very lucky. Beginning different solid foods is always fun. Here is fun with cottage cheese.

Bath-time cutie! Bath-time is one of Claire's favorite things. She loves playing in the water with her toys and filling and emptying cups. She still has the adorable arm rolls, I can never get enough of those babies...

Once Claire started crawling and pulling up on things, nothing was safe anymore, especially shiny silver cameras taunting her. Here she is in full attack mode...

In late April we had a freak snow-storm, right after a gorgeous weekend out on Whidbey Island (see Whidbey Island post). We didn't spend much time out in the snow this winter so Claire didn't quite know what to think. She refused to look at the camera and only wanted to lick the snowflakes from her snowsuit.

Well, there is our baby girl in a nutshell. There are plenty more where those came from so stay tuned!

Whidbey Island

We took Claire on her first hiking trip out to Whidbey Island. We had a great time and Claire enjoyed cruising around in her new backpack. We walked for a couple of miles on a trail that ran along the coast and enjoyed one of the few sunny weekends we've had this spring. Someone enjoyed the pebble beach a little too much, mmmm those warm beach rocks taste so good. Argos got to stretch his 3" legs a bit as well.

Much to mommy's dismay we also did a little scrambling up rock faces together.

Visiting the Barson's

In March we visited our friends the Barson's at their home in Spokane, WA. Sophie, Everett and Claire had so much fun playing together and it was nice to be able to catch up with Jenn and John in person again.

While there, we went on an outing to Riverfront Park in downtown Spokane and rode on the carousel. This was obviously Claire's first carousel ride and full of lots of high-pitched giggles and squeals...

We also took the kids to the park where they rode on the swings. More giggles from Claire as she rode in a swing for the first time too...

We caught Sophia and Everett in a precious brother-sister moment on the slide...so cute!

Back at the house Sophia enjoyed feeding Baby Claire her yogurt. You can tell she has had a lot of big-sister practice!

November-December 2007

Diefenbach Family Ornament Party

At the end of November we hosted the annual Diefenbach Family Ornament Exchange Party at our house. This event is mostly for the family members on the west side of the mountains (although all are invited!). We had a pretty good turn out and had lots of fun. We also found out that Bridget's cousin Amber and her husband Ben are expecting their first baby in August. This news was funny for us because last year (2006) we found out we were pregnant the day of the ornament party. We had decided to wait to make the announcement until Bridget was further along but did tell Bridget's parents that night. We have decided that it is now tradition that someone announce their pregnancy at every ornament exchange party, so who's next...Jessica...Heather...Angie??? Ha ha!

Hosting the party also motivated us to get a little more settled into our house...although we still didn't have much furniture...oh well! We also had to decorate for the holidays so we got our first August Family Christmas Tree, very exciting (at least for Bridget and Claire!).

PEPS Festivus

Our parenting group decided to celebrate the holidays with our babies, so we had a festivus party at Jay and Fairleigh's house. We always have so much fun with these families, our PEPS group has become quite close and still meet on an every-other-week basis. The babies have fun rolling around on the floor and we have fun visiting and sharing life's "highs and lows"!!

Christmas

Claire's first Christmas was quite an event. It was great to hear from so many of our friends and family members at the holidays, thank you for keeping us in your thoughts, you are always in ours.

As we said before, we had our very first Christmas Tree and it was just beautiful. Michael still has almost all of his childhood ornaments which we used to trim the tree, making it very special. Christmas Eve we went down to Bridget's parents and had our traditional Christmas Eve meal...homemade pizza! We all stayed the night, woke up the next morning and opened presents. Claire played santa, thanks to the adorable hat and booties from Aunt Marion and Uncle Jerry! Claire loved opening presents, especially the wrapping paper which she enjoyed more than the gifts inside! Go figure! Even the "boys", mini weiners Argos and Mogi, were included in Christmas and are shown here in their new matching athletic rain jackets from Grandma Carol!
